"Sagrantino is the tannin bomb of a grape from the south of Italy and gives Nebbiolo a run for its money more often than not. The 2008 is starting to drink quite nicely but needs a decent decant ahead of drinking or a few more years in bottle. It showcases a great nose of macerated black cherries, black plums, dates, dried herbs, allspice and red currant jam. Utterly delicious and juicy on the palate with more meaty and black fruit notes to enjoy here. The tannins are sturdy and call out for some food to enjoy with it. An alluring dried blackcurrant note follows this wine out on to a long finish."
