Grillo
Classic aromas of Grillo are: Green Apple, Lemon, Lime, Orange and White Peach
Grillo is the classic white grape varietal of Sicily that only seems to be gaining more popularity and plantings around the island. It isn’t a particularly old varietal with a history that only spans back to 1873 – this being because it is a cross with the other Sicilian white grape: Catarratto and Muscat.
Grillo is planted across Sicily but is most important in the production of Marsala and the white wines of Trapani and Alcamo. It is gaining importance thanks to a few top winemakers making some truly incredible wines out of Grillo.
At its best, Grillo is full-bodied with moderate acidity and flavours of green apple, lemon and lime with light white and orange floral aromatics.
