Skerlj Winery
Skerlj is headed by Matej Skerlj who has a very small farm of only just two hectares of vines in Carso which lies on the border of northeastern Italy and Slovenia. Technically this is in the Friuli. He makes wines from relatively rare grapes that are only to be found, aside from the Malvasia, in this region in the north of Italy. The vineyards are cared for by using organic practises (but for sticklers, he is yet to be organically certified). All of the wines are made in the most natural of ways by using minimal sulfur, spontaneous ferments started by natural yeasts and not filtering or fining his wines.
