Canelones
Canelones is the main, and most important, wine region in Uruguay. It makes up roughly 80% of the total vineyard area and is where the leaders of the Uruguayan wine scene are focused. Tannat is the main grape varietal here closely followed by many other, originally French, grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay.
