Our Friends

No one in life gets very far without a little help from their friends. The Cellar is happy to be friends with some of the greatest people in the wine trade, both within NZ and globally. Here are just a few of our friends - the list no doubt will expand.

These websites are hubs of wine information; laughs to literature, tasting notes to gripping exposes, winemaker interviews, and everything in between.

Joelle Thomson

Joelle is without a doubt one of New Zealand's greatest tasters, wine writers and personalities. Her insight into the world of wine is thanks to her 20+ years of experience writing and tasting as well as her thirst for knowledge. She is soon to complete her WSET Diploma of Wine degree later this year which shall solidify her place of knowledge in the wine trade.

Wine Sentience

The man behind this fantastic website and business is Stephen Wong. Wine Sentience was started in 2007 with the notion of spreading the word of natural and organic wines. Stephen is well known in the NZ wine trade as the man for giving specialist wine advice. He also regularly gives his services to the hospitality where he helps to enrich the minds of those in restaurants, wineries and bars around the country.

Jancis Robinson MW

The queen of wine herself. Jancis Robinson was the first person outside of the wine trade (at the time was a term reserved for winemakers or viticulturists) to gain the highly respected Master of Wine qualification. Since joining that club in 1984, she has gone on to becoming "the most respected wine critic and journalist in the world" (Decanter magazine). Jancis has authored more books on wine then could comfortably fit on a bookshelf. The most important of which is the Oxford Companion of Wine - the Wine Bible! - which encompasses everything you will ever need to know about wine.

Tim Atkin MW

Tim Atkin is one of the greatest writers of wine that the world is currently lucky enough to share. He brings wit and wisdom to his wine columns and reviews helping to make a topic oft shrouded in difficulties an easy and enjoyable one. His reports on regions such as South Africa, Rhone, Argentina, Oregon and Washington are priceless.
