WINE 101
WINE 101 is a collection of information that breaks down what wine is. We have set it up to be a course (all free!) that you can follow along, though you can skip through to certain sections in the table of contents too.
By the end of the course you will have all the knowledge to start tasting and describing wines with confidence.
WINE 101 is our guidebook for tasting wines and getting the lingo right.
Now at the end of the day there is no hard and fast way to describe a wine. This is due to a couple of reasons: a) there are thousands of aromatic molecules that make up the smell and taste of each and every wine, and b) everyone tastes each wine differently. There is a rough consensus on classic aromas and flavours for each main grape varietal though the nuances from Chardonnay to Chardonnay differ with each bottle and vintage.
However, there are a few things that simply do not change on individual perception. These are the physical attributes such as acidity or tannins. Here is where you can finally learn what these are and how they relate to the wine as a whole.
The course is split into four parts: Sight, Smell, Taste and Food & Wine Matching. To us it makes sense to follow the natural progression of these four aspects BUT if you wanted to jump straight to 'tannins' or 'how we smell?', then you can via the table of contents linked below or in the top menu of the website.
