Castilla Y Leon
Castilla Y Leon is the over-riding larger region of northwest Spain which covers the highly important regions of Ribera del Duero and Rueda. The region is for winemakers who wish to produce wines in the same regions as those mentioned just not to the strict regulations that those regions' wines need to be at. So you can produce a Sauvignon Blanc in the same vineyards as a Tempranillo in Ribera del Duero - you just can't call it Ribera del Duero as it isn't made to it's regulations. Thus Castilla Y Leon region exists.
