Lacrima di Morro d'Alba

Classic aromas of Lacrima di Morro d’Alba are black plum, boysenberry, vanilla, red cherry and red rose

Lacrima di Morro d’Alba is the name of the grape of the incredibly aromatic red wines produced under the same regional name. The wines of Lacrima di Morro d’Alba are from the Marche region. It is a fairly young grape varietal to Italy being known for just short of a couple of hundred years. Its history may stretch out longer than this but it is hard to know as it was incredibly close to extinction until rescued in 1985.

Lacrima di Morro d’Alba produces incredibly floral and aromatic red wines. It can be quite tannic when in a very hot year but otherwise is plush and medium-full in body. It has a base of black plum, boysenberry and black cherries but is quickly vitalised by the wild raspberry, cherry blossom, red/black rose and lavender notes. Not all examples are this floral but many are – one of the grapes’ charms. Some examples also portray a more savoury side with smoked meat, raisins and prosciutto flavours too.
